Three races, three winners, three championship contenders: The F1 Esports Pro Series could hardly be any more exciting after rounds seven through nine. Before the battles for the series crown on December 15th and 16th, Jarno Opmeer, Lucas Blakeley and Frederik Rasmussen are almost head-to-head in the overall standings with just eight points separating the trio.
Reigning champion Opmeer, who is on the grid for the Mercedes team, sits atop the standings at 140 points after the most recent triple header – it was not an easy few events for the Dutchman, however: The first race at Algarve International Circuit saw him finish down in seventh while Blakeley (Aston Martin) took the win, followed by Rasmussen (Red Bull). The following race at Zandvoort did not play into the hands of the 2020 champion either, as he finished in sixth. This time, it was his teammate Dani Moreno who took to the top step of the virtual podium, having secured his first win of the seasos. Rasmussen took another second place, followed by Blakeley.
The 21-year old had to feel a certain pressure going into ninth round of the season at Circuit of the Americas. And he delivered: A win at the Texas track, Opmeer scored important championship points – especially since Rasmussen came home in second yet again. The Dane proved his almost uncanny consistency with his sixth top three finish in nine races. Blakeley, meanwhile, finished sixth.
Thus, the trio heads into the final three events of the season as the favorites for the championship fight. Opmeer 140, Blakeley 135, Rasmussen 132 – the points situation is tight before the races at Imola and Mexico City on December 15th and at Interlagos on December 16th. Moreno is a whopping 50 points behind Rasmussen – everything points to a three-way fight for the title.
Until then, you can re-watch all the action of rounds seven through nine on the official F1 YouTube channel – all the other races of the season can be found there as well.
